We have been hearing of several handset makers working on foldable smartphones for a long time. The feat, however, has been achieved by ZTE. The Axon M is the company’s first dual display smartphone with a hinge. ZTE Axon M has been launched exclusively on AT&T in the US, and will be available starting next month. The Chinese company has confirmed that the Axon M will also be making its way to other markets including China, Europe and Japan.
ZTE is heavily marketing the new Axon M as a multimedia device and says that it can fit in a pocket easily when folded. The smartphone comes with four modes including Dual mode, which will allow users to use two different apps in separate screens; Extended mode can stream email or allows users play games on a full 6.75-inch full-HD display; Mirror mode, which allows users to mirror the same content on both the screen when folded with both screens in different directions, and Traditional mode, which allows users to use the device as a conventional smartphone. ZTE Axon M will be available at $24.17 (roughly Rs. 1,600) for 30 months on AT&T Next when they have eligible service.
For specifications, the ZTE Axon M features two 5.2-inch dual full-HD TFT LCD displays with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It is powered by Snapdragon 821 SoC, which may seem slightly outdated. It comes with 4GB of RAM and packs 64GB inbuilt storage. Interestingly, there’s 20-megapixel single camera which can be used for rear and front-facing shots. The rear camera comes with f/1.8 aperture. The Android 7.1.2 Nougat-based handset packs 3180mAh battery and supports Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging.
Commenting on the launch, “The ZTE Axon M is the beginning of a significant movement of smartphone capabilities, and ZTE is leading the way. The mobile technology ecosystem and consumer habits have evolved over the past several years, but the smartphone experience has only slightly varied throughout that time until today, with the introduction of the Axon M. Consumers need and expect more from their current smartphone and we are proud to collaborate with carriers around the world and AT&T in the US to transform their mobile experience.”
