Motorola may not have been creating enough hype with its latest G7 series smartphones but leaks and rumours have given us a fair idea about their upcoming aggressive offerings in the budget segments. So far, the Moto One Vision is supposed to bring a major refresh in Motorola’s design lineup with a punch hole camera design. While we assumed that would be the only upcoming release from the Lenovo-owned phone maker, another leak has thrown up light on a mysterious Motorola phone that brings a quad-camera setup to Motorola’s lineup for the first time.
The renders of the device have been obtained by CashKaro and Onleaks, with no name or specifications given for the device. However, the renders show us possibly the most striking feature of the device – a quad camera setup at the rear. The phone has four cameras arranged in a unique pattern, with the Moto logo imprinted on the camera module itself. The renders approve of one of the cameras being a 48-megapixel sensor. There’s no information on the rest of the camera modules for now.
The rear seems to be made out of metal with a brushed aluminium finish. The finish is definitely different from anything else we have seen on Motorola. The phone also sports a USB-C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack and all the other usual buttons. The renders show two colours – silver and black.
The front of the device comes with a familiar notched display. We saw the new Moto G7 adopt the waterdrop notch and the same is applied here. The chin is narrow but big enough to hold the Motorola logo. While the render doesn’t show any proof, it is said the phone will come with an in-display fingerprint sensor. This means that the phone could use an OLED panel.
Form what it seems, it is too early to get finished designs of the Moto G8. With the Motorola One vision expected to bring the punch hole camera design to the affordable segments, it seems that this could kickstart a new Motorola series. Considering the metallic finish and the waterdrop design, Motorola could also launch this as the successor to the Moto M from a few years ago. Motorola won’t possibly be launching this as a premium device, considering its affordable phones now offer a glass-bodied design.
Whichever name this phone carries, it clearly shows Motorola’s intentions to aim for a major share in the camera-focused smartphone market. The 48-megapixel camera could most probably be using the Samsung sensor instead of the Sony IMX585 sensor. Considering the last Motorola M came with a MediaTek processor, Motorola could use the Helio P70 for this device.
