HMD Global has promised to launch a series of Nokia-branded Android smartphones this year. The company has already introduced the Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 smartphones along with the 2017 Nokia 3310 edition. As these devices gradually make it to the consumers’ hands, rumors have already started doing the rounds about other models from the series. In the latest round of rumors, a sketch of what is believed to be the Nokia 2 smartphone has appeared online.
The said image, leaked on China’s Baidu website, shows off the purported Nokia 2 alongside the existing Nokia 3 smartphone. If the sketch is anything to go by, the Nokia 2 will be slightly smaller than the Nokia 3 and feature curved corners for a better grip. In comparison, the Nokia 3 has more of a rectangular design. Some reports suggest that the smartphone could, in fact, also look similar to the older Nokia Lumia 620 which was first launched in 2013.
According to Android Headlines, the Nokia 2 is speculated to be HMD Global’s most affordable Android-powered smartphone. Given the lack of a fingerprint sensor, as teased in the sketch, this speculation could indeed hold true for the Nokia 2. ALSO READ: Nokia 9 with 4GB RAM cancelled in favor of 6GB or 8GB RAM variant
In the past, some specifications of the Nokia 2 have been rumored, reiterating that it will be an entry-level smartphone. It is expected that the budget device will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 SoC with four ARM Cortex-A7 CPU cores clocked at up to 1.1GHz and Adreno 304 for graphics.
Going by the sketch, the Nokia 2 appears to have similar display size as the Nokia 3 which has a 5-inch display. To give an idea, the Nokia 3 is equipped with an IPS LCD screen and has a resolution of 1280 x 720. It is unclear if the Nokia 2 will also offer similar display quality. While there is little or no difference in terms of the display size of the Nokia 3 and Nokia 2, the latter appears to have on-screen navigation buttons. Given that the Nokia 2 is believed to be HMD Global’s most affordable smartphone, it might also be priced lower than the Nokia 3 which currently retails at Rs 9,499 in India. Meanwhile, the company is expected to unveil three more smartphones by the end of this year including the widely rumored Nokia 8and Nokia 9. Both these smartphones are expected to be flagship devices with top-tier features such as dual camera module, fingerprint sensor, and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC.
