Apple has revamped the iPod Touch and included features that are available in top-end smartphones of 2014 such as the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the HTC One M8. Some features of the new iPod Touch are even better or at par with the company’s own iPhone 5s.
Here is a comparison of the iPod Touch with the iPhone 5s, Galaxy S5 and One M8.
The iPhone 5s runs on Apple’s A7 processor, which is clocked at 1.3GHz.
The Galaxy S5 is powered by a 2.5 GHz Snapdragon 805 processor and the One M8 has a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 processor.
The latest iPod Touch includes the A8 processor, the same one used in the iPhone 6 for the smooth running of games and apps. It also includes an M8 motion coprocessor for better fitness tracking.
The A8 chip boasts “10 times faster graphics performance for a more immersive gaming experience,” stated Apple.
The iPhone 5s sports an 8MP iSight camera and a 2MP front-facing camera. The Galaxy S5 has a 16MP primary camera and a 2.1MP selfie camera. The HTC One M8 is equipped with a 4MP rear-facing duo camera and a 5MP front camera.
iPod Touch also gets the same camera found in the iPhone 5s. Take note: the camera of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 are the same, which means that the iPod Touch has the same camera as Apple’s current flagship phone.
All the flagship smartphones normally come with the latest operating system. The iPod Touch comes running on the latest iOS 8.4. The iPhone 5s has also received the latest iOS update.
Both the Galaxy S5 and One M8 run on Android 4.4 KitKat straight out of the box but both handsets are upgradable to Android 5.1 Lollipop.
The iPhone 5s, Galaxy S5 and M8 come with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS connectivity. Being smartphones, all these three handsets also allow customers to make and receive calls.
The iPod Touch includes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, but it does not have GPS or calling capabilities.
The iPhone 5s was launched with 16/32/64GB storage options without the option to expand the memory. The 64GB version of the iPhone 5s has been discontinued.
Both the Galaxy S5 and One M8 come with 16/32GB internal storage options. Both handsets also allow the expansion of memory to an additional 128GB with a microSD card.
The 2015 iPod Touch is available in 16/32/64/128GB on-board storage variants, but users cannot use a microSD card to expand the memory.
The 16/32/64/128GB versions of the iPod Touch have a price tag of $199/$249/$299/$399, which is far cheaper than the price of many top-end smartphones.
Apple is selling the 16/32GB iPhone 5s for $549/$599. The 16GB HTC One M8 is available for $419.99 on Amazon, while Best Buy is selling the 16GB Galaxy S5 for $469.99.
Like the iPhone 5s, the latest iPod Touch sports a 4-inch display. The Galaxy S5 has a 5.1-inch display and the One M8 comes with a 5-inch screen.
The music iDevice is available in the usual space gray, gold and silver hues, but can also be bought in blue and pink colors.
The 2015 iPod Touch is more than just a music device. It can attract many people who are looking for a device primarily to run apps or play games.
If the connectivity aspect is not a deterrent, then many customers may opt for the iPod Touch over some existing smartphones such as the iPhone 5s.
