Thanks to steady sales of the V20, K and X series devices, and maybe even thanks to Samsung’s misfortune with the Galaxy Note 7, LG saw an increase in US market share during Q1.
Up about 3% from last year, LG is sitting at 19.6%, still ranked third in the US market behind Apple (34.5%) and Samsung (24.6%). Posted by market research firm Strategy Analytics, LG sold 7.6 million smartphones in North America (US and Canada) in Q1, not far behind Samsung that sold 9 million smartphones.
With the G6 now available, LG hopes to see this upward trend continue into Q2. We’ve already confirmed via multiple reviews that it is a great device, but as I stated earlier, it’s very possible that LG saw market share growth due to Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 being completely removed from the market. If that had never happened, this could be a very different story.
We’ll have to wait and find out how the G6 stacks against the Galaxy S8 when the next quarter’s numbers are released.
