Renu Raj, the doctor who passed the civil services exam on Saturday, says that she never expected to clear UPSC by bagging the second rank all over India.
Sharing her happiness at performing so well in the prestigious exam, she told future aspirants that perseverance is the key to success.
Raj is a native of Changanassery in Kottayam district and presently works in an ESI hospital at Kalluvathukkal in south Kerala’s Kollam district. For the last one year, she has been taking coaching in Delhi, and her parents too shifted with her to the capital in order to support her.
“This was my first attempt. I was tense since night and even though I knew the results would be out by afternoon, I did not tell my parents,” she said.
“I was even more tensed when I logged on to the website. My phone started ringing even before I could check the results as my friends and well-wishers told me that I had secured the second rank.”, “I did not believe that I’ll be successful in my first attempt. I would like to attribute my success to my loved ones who supported me through this time,” she added.
Raj’s elated father said her success is dedicated to the poor. He was confident that his daughter will help the weakest sections of the society.
“Had she remained a doctor, she could have helped 50 or 100 patients. But through her new qualification, one decision of hers will benefit thousands,” he told the media. Renu’s husband is also a doctor.
