Because DJI drones are hard to come by, I was curious. Antigravity by Insta360 is a novel approach to drone flying. The majority of drones currently in use in the United States and around the world originate from China, with DJI being the most popular brand. However, if you want one, you might notice that the shelves are almost empty. By July 2025, major American retailers and DJI’s own website will no longer carry the drones. A possible US ban, set for December 2025, might be the reason. Now Insta360 is stepping into the spotlight with its new drone brand, Antigravity.
Insta360 gives content creators the tools they need to stand out with shots that feel fresh and original—they are known for pushing the creative envelope with their action cameras. What can we anticipate from them in the air then? Max Richter, co-founder of Insta360 and VP of Marketing, describes the new launch as “the best of what can happen when we help incubate bold ideas and co-engineer new technology.” It’s a novel approach to drone design that challenges conventional wisdom.

Utilization ease According to Insta360
Antigravity drones are suitable for most people. Whether you’re spending time with your kids, planning a trip, or just getting started with flying. The setup feels smooth and quick, so you can get in the air and start filming fast. Especially when it comes to avoiding obstacles, neither Insta360 nor Antigravity divulges much information about their specifications or features. We still have a good idea of what to expect from Insta360’s other equipment. Insta360 consistently demonstrates its ability to design equipment for photography and videography that is intuitive from the outset. Just consider the X5. It might be the most straightforward 360 camera on the market.
You’ve already gotten close to flying if you’ve used the X5. That action camera takes pictures of everything that’s going on around you, making any shot look like it came from above. Without ever lifting off, think floating shots, smooth POV clips, and more. Let’s talk about weight now. Antigravity keeps it under 250g (0.55 lb), so you skip most of the paperwork. For recreational use in the United States, light drones do not require FAA registration. With its Mini series, which includes the Mini 2, Mini SE, Mini 3, and others, DJI has long competed in the same market. All less than 250g. Because of its size, the skies are kept simple, legal, and accessible to all.
Qualitative image
The large image sensors of the Insta360 X5 action camera help it produce footage that is clear and sharp, making it stand out. If Antigravity equips its drones with comparable sensors, you can expect vivid and clear images. Take the DJI Mavic 3 Pro, for instance. It has a huge sensor for its main camera, which captures a lot of detail and handles all kinds of lighting much better than the majority of other drones.
Before you leave
You can get views that you can’t get with expensive equipment using small drones for photography and video. I get the impression that Insta360 wants Antigravity to draw viewers in with 360-degree footage. Since DJI already has almost everything packed into their drones, Insta360 needs to go big, and 360 might be their wildcard.
