LG has pre-announced another of its 2016 smartphones, the LG Stylus 2.
It seems to be LG’s way to announce its smartphones ahead of their official announcement. We’ll let the oddness of that statement sit with you for a paragraph break.
After showing its hand for the LG G5 and LG X series, South Korea’s second-biggest smartphone maker is at it again with the LG Stylus 2. It’s a follow-up to last year’s LG G4 Stylus, which itself was a follow-up to 2014’s LG G3 Stylus. We’re not even going to ask how the ‘Stylus 2’ name makes sense.
What it does continue to suggest, however, is that the LG Stylus 2 is a large-screen phablet with a bundled-in screen-writing implement. This time said stylus has a nano-coated pen tip for a “real pen-like feel,” which reportedly allows for more accuracy compared to a rubber-tipped equivalent.
New stylus, new stylus software. The LG Stylus 2’s Pen Keeper function will notify you when you start moving with the stylus out of its holder, while Pen Pop toggles shortcuts to Pop Memo and Pop Scanner when the stylus is in use.
As before, though, the Stylus 2 is not specced to the same premium level as the Samsung Galaxy Note 5. It comes with a 5.7-inch 720p display, a 1.2GHz quad-core CPU with 1.5GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel camera, and a 3,000mAh battery. It’s a solid low-to-mid-ranger, then.

Given the size of its screen, the LG Stylus 2 looks set to be remarkably thin and light, to the tune of 7.4mm and 145g.
We’ll no doubt see more of the LG Stylus 2 on February 22, but it seems to be a US-focused device right now. LG expects it to be available in America later this year.
