Social media posts are giving us a bit more insight into the situation involving a 17-year-old Pinecrest High Student and the teacher that police accused of taking indecent liberties with her.
On May 14, school police were given a screen shot of a Facebook conversation between Evan Saleeby and the student which contained a sexually charged conversation between the two. It included references to being bent over the teachers desk and having him slide her hand up her leg.
That same night the student wrote on her Facebook page apologizing for causing trouble and saying in part: “This is my fault entirely, you were my victim.”
Also on the student’s Tumblr account, she posted, “He’s getting arrested.” And she wrote about a two-year relationship that she said grew to more than a student and teacher.
That post was read by many of her classmates.
Student Cierra Tweed said she had read the Tumblr page.
“I feel like she should not be saying anything about the situation,” Tweed said. “It’s disgusting.”
The student’s post included more details about inappropriate touching as well as more claims by her that Saleeby was her victim because she took advantage of him.
WNCN, in a recent special report, asked an expert about situations where a teacher becomes involved in a student.
Terry Miller, president of Stop Educator Sexual Abuse, said, “This is child sexual abuse and child rape. … It’s wretched. It wreaks havoc on their lives, their relationships and their emotional well-being. They are traumatized.”
Miller said incidents like this are all too common.
“We have one in 10 children that are being affected by educator sexual misconduct,” he said.
Miller said that today’s students live on social media, and it is imperative that parents monitor their media usage.
