Latest poll sees boost for government parties
There’s good news for the government parties, according to the latest Sunday Business Post/Red C poll.
The poll of just over 1,000 adults was taken between Monday and Wednesday, and the feel-good factor of last weekend’s referendum victory appears to have benefited both Fine Gael and Labour.
Boko Haram assault Nigerian city of Maiduguri
A Boko Haram suicide bomber has killed 9 people and injured dozens at a mosque in the Nigerian city of Maiduguri.
The attack comes after an overnight assault on the city by the Islamic militants. 13 people were killed during sustained RPG fire before troops repelled the assault.
The attacks come only one day after Muhammadu Buhari was sworn in as Nigeria’s new president.
Sinn Féin holding special meeting in Dublin to discuss budgetary crisis in the North
A special meeting is being held this afternoon by the Sinn Féin party to discuss the Stormont crisis.
The talks will focus on the continuing budgetary crisis in the North, with the devolved administration facing collapse.
Party leader Gerry Adams and deputy leader Mary-Lou McDonald are attending the meeting today.
Meanwhile Foreign Affairs Minister Charlie Flanagan will lead the Irish government delegation to an emergency meeting with the British and Northern Irish representatives on Tuesday.
45 civilians killed and dozens injured in bomb blasts in Syria
45 civilians have been killed and dozens more injured in a series of bomb blasts in Syria.
The AFP news agency says regime helicopters dropped barrel bombs and hit an IS-held neighbourhood in the city of Aleppo early today.
Among the 12 dead there were eight members of a single family. The bomb reportedly fell near a car carrying the family.
Man arrested following stabbing death in West Belfast
A 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of a man in the Summerhill Park area of West Belfast in the early hours of the morning.
Police in the North have launched a murder investigation following the suspected stabbing of 22-year-old Eamonn Magee just before 2.40am. He was taken to hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries.
The 32 year old man, arrested in the Dunmurry area on suspicion of murder, is currently assisting police with their enquiries.
