The government of Gujarat plans to introduce the founder of the Reliance Group, Dhirubhai Ambani, in its school text books. This issue came up for discussion during a meeting of the education department, held in Gandhinagar. The meeting’s main objective was to plan the prospective changes in the school syllabus.
Gujarat education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama confirmed the possibility of introducing chapters on Ambani. “However, since no concrete decision in this regard has been taken, I shall not be able to say anything more on this,” Chudasama said, as quoted by TOI.
The government might also introduce lessons on the Jnanpith award-winning Gujarati writers Umashankar Joshi and Pannalal Patel.
A source in the education department said that while there is some kind of consensus over the inclusion, the roadmap for introducing the lessons is not ready yet. “It will take a while before the final call is taken and the chapters are included in the text books,” said the source.
“While the current academic session is already on, if at all, the inclusion would be possible only from the next session at the earliest,” the source added.
The Ambani family has shared a warm bond with successive Gujarat governments. The senior Ambani had set up his industrial base in the state and presently both Mukesh and Anil Ambani are close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
