Moto E -9

At an event in Delhi today, Motorola made a splash in the budget segment by making its much awaited & leaked device, the Moto E official. The phone boasts of class leading specifications and unrivaled build quality. We spent some time with the phone to gather our first impressions of the device. Moto E -1

The front of the phone has a 4.3” display with a resolution of 960×540. The display is covered with an anti smudge coating and a Gorilla Glass panel. We found the display to be perfectly usable in indoor conditions but brightness levels weren’t as good as we would’ve liked. Using the phone in bright sunlight might hence prove to be a problem.

The phone feels solid in the hand and is made of a polycarbonate material which is fairly grippy. Chromed buttons on the side exude quality and just the perfect amount of give. You get access to a power key and a volume rocker. Moving to the top of the phone, there’s a 3.5mm audio jack placed in the center while the bottom has the micro USB port. Audio output from the speaker is fairly clear but once again, we’d have preferred it to be a bit louder.

Moto E -2

Over at the back, the design reminds you of the Moto X. A 5MP auto focus capable camera is located up top. Unfortunately there is no LED flash here neither is there a front facing camera. The rear camera cannot shoot HD videos but you can view 720p content on the device. As promised by Motorola, opening the camera app and operating it is a quick affair but image quality in general was average at best. We’ll have more conclusive results for you in our full review.

Moto E -7

Removing the back cover you can spot the two SIM card slots as well as the microSD card slot. The phone has a 1980 mAh battery which is sealed in. You can however change the rear panels and switch them out for Grip Shells that offer extra rigidity. The phone has a water resistant nano coating on the inside but you probably shouldn’t dunk this in a pool.

Moto E -8

The Moto E is powered by a 1.2Ghz Snapdragon 200 processor paired with 1GB of RAM. There’s 4GB of storage that is on the lower end of the spectrum but we can’t really complain given the price point of the phone. Generally speaking, the performance left nothing to complain about though we’ll need to  put it through its paces when we do our full review.

The Moto E with its fantastic blend of price and performance should prove to be a hot seller for Motorola and the perfect sub 10,000 rupee smartphone. The Moto E will be available exclusively on Flipkart at a price point of Rs. 6,990.
